An eye-opening slice of history - especially relevant since my work evolves around women in woodworking and furniture making... thanks for bringing to light this wonderful historical record!
What beautiful book. A gorgeous collection, highlighting amazing women doing phenomenal things! If I could I'd give it 10 stars!
It is for the Lumberjill fans who have already read Joanna's Lumberjills book. A few blank pages but it was difficult to take photos in wartime and difficult to get hold of them now. It is not just captions on the photos and there are a few paragraphs of information on some pages that gave me new information. Not much on the Scottish scene which had a high concentration of timber operations.
This is a collection of fascinating photos, discovered by the author Joanna Foat during her research for The Lumberjills that show women working, laughing, sharing friendship and getting on with life during the Second World War. The format of the book reminds me of a photo album and I loved the layout and abundance of photographs that I have never seen before. If you are interested in social history and in women's stories and lives this is the book for you.
The hardback photo book is a beautiful gift and its wonderful photos truly bring stories about these incredible Lumberjills to life. Thank you for putting this photographic record together, Jo, and ensuring this part of history will be remembered for generations to come.
